Ok i picked up a 95 kx500 in ok shape. It is plated so that is the big reason i snagged it. I drove 6 hours to toleto ohio from roch NY. Any how, I cleaned up the porting ,installed a window mod piston, adjusted kips. Now it is running well I am going to convert it to a Monster S/M bike for the street. I have been collecting black plastic and street leagl stuff. Still working on the supermoto part. Still waiting on the tank and radiator shrouds.

Still waiting on the radiator shrouds.
Tough to come by. You might have to settle with green ones... If you do find some black ones, let me know!!! She's gonna look great when she's done though. :-D
-
Found seat covers, graphics, black rad covers. just need a black tank and new WHITE side panels. where did you get the black side panels?
-
I have the black tank and shrouds on the way. The only one that makes the side panels in black is mayers. I got them from chaparral motorsports. it does not help I ordered the front fender wrong 2 times and the rear fender was a front also. So now i have a stock ufo black front fender and a acerbis red front fender I will not use lol. I finally got the black acerbis evo fender I wanted.
-
nice buy !!!

u don,t take half steps with it ,this bike will look furious when ready

GRRRRRRRRR stupid swing arm bearings. I messed them up trying to press them in and had to order a new set.
I am going to mic the rear wheel bearings in the new rims and order a set with a 20mm center so i can use my stock axle.

What size rear tire is that. It's huge.
-
5in rim with a 160/60/17. Right now the chain hits the tire. I am going to try a non o-ring or maybe shave the tire a little.
-
You should try changing the wheel offset. You can move the wheel over by loosening the spokes on the sprocket side and tightening the spokes on the rotor side. You can move the rim to hub offset a bunch by doing this. You go around the wheel once and loosen all the spokes on the sprocket side 1/4 turn and then go around the wheel once again and tighten the spokes on the rotor side 1/4 turn. Start and stop in the same spot every time and make sure you keep everything equil. Repeat this until you get the desired wheel offset.
-
Yeah I have seen people do that but in my case I just can't =). I am going to try a chain slider and maybe a non o-ring chain there 2mm thinner.

-
wonder if you could rig up offset sprockets. You could run a spacer between the rear sprocket and the hub and maybe machine the front sprocket to make it thiner in the middle and then put a spacer behind it.You may even be able to buy them, these ones are made by talon and they look like they might work on a kx500. Then all you would need is a sweet spacer for the back sprocket.
-
Very intresting :-D. I like the way you think lol.
-
I shaved both sides of the tire, offest the spacers, shimed out the rear sprocket. and reassembiled te lower chain guide diffrently to hold the chain away from the tire. Also made a slider. I just installed the kx250 rear fender also.

If the chain just clears the tyre when the bikes not running it's pretty sure to catch it when the bikes on the move.
Mine clears it when stationary but still fouls it a bit when on the move.
-
I have installed a custom made chain slider on top and bottom that will not let the chain move inward into the tire.
-
cant wait to see it all finished! i need a new computer wallpaper!
-
ohh the kawasakinut likey!!! You even got the black swingarm, we think alike. Thats gonna be a fresh ride when complete.
-
New 44mm lectron /w uni filter. The air box is now my oil/battery box.
-
lookin good. how does it run with the open uni?
-
Not sure lol. I tried to start it but the front forks aren't on. So it is a pita.
-
I saw your post on SMJ. This thing is going to be a killer. If there is a market for them.....I can have the chain sliders made that keep the chain off of the wheel......something like this.

Pour oil on top of fuel stream slowly while filling.
-
Make sure you turn off the fuel petcock before pouring the oil in......(I forgot 1 time and the oil ran into the carb).......then add gas......and give some extra mixxing by holding the front brake and compressing/rocking the forks.

i have to admit ,this bike looks sick :-D
very nice 8-)
you have it up and running yet ?
-
Do you get checks in the mail from Monster or just free product? :-D
-
Just a tip for you is that the heatbandage works better at the first part of expansionchamber ( header) not at endcone and stingerpipe.
-
Very Nice! I like it.....Good work.
I might be next
-
No checks or product from monster. I did it to make it look like the newer kx monster bikes. The bike starts 1 kick and rips. The 15/42 gearing is a little high for me but still pulls nice. I ran out of exhuast wrap and the black high temp power I used was old and came out like crap so i covered it . I am going to get the pc pipe.
-
What would you say the 5th gear cruising speed is at 15/42 gearing?
-
At 65 MPH, with 76 inch tire circumference (160/60-17), 15-42 and 5th gear is 5077 RPM.
I made an Excel spreadsheet for these gearing games, I just have to figure out how to post it here so others can download it. :?

so am i underst.anding correctly, you got the black shrouds from chapparall? by the way, the bike looks killer!
-
I'm pround to say that the reason that the KX500 is in the www.gearingcommander.com data base is because of muah :-D. Ouch  I think I may have hyperextended my arm patting myself on the back.

There's one I copied quite some time ago from this site.
I downloaded it and kept hold of it then recently put it onto Scribd.
It has to be downloaded as an Excel file or it won't work
