Title: Buenos Nachos
Post by: Platypus on March 30, 2007, 05:08:33 AM
It has taken me 10 years to get off my ass but I finally did it.  I have owned various bikes since I was about 12 but never really rode that often.  I just started back up a few months ago and will be purchasing a 2000 KX500 tomorrow to replace my 96 WR250 (2 stroke).  The WR has served me well and I will be sad when it sells.  I plan on easing my way into racing D-37 desert events this year and actually did my first race just a few weeks ago.  I don't think I have ever gone that fast in my life but once the race started I was in a different world and loved it.  I'm totally stoked this site exists as it appears to be a plethora of information.  Guess that's about it.....

Welcome to the site! I had a 97 WR 250, the last year they were sold here. My brother had a 95. Great bikes when setup properly. I think the WR 2 stroke is still available in Canada and Europe. I saw a picture of a 04 steel framed WR 2 stroke just recently. It had turn signals and all!

Yeah the WR is a killer bike and they should have kept making it but I guess the demand was not there.  I have the long rod kit in mine which helped tame it down and made the power more tractable.  I have been looking for a replacement for a long time with no luck, not that it needs it but I wanted to have it on hand when the time came.  I have a 93-95 YZ seat and tank for it too to slim it up on short rides.  Anyone else here from the socal area?  I am always down for a weekend of riding if I don't have plans already.  I am not the ride 5 miles drink a 6 pack rider...I prefer longer rides at a decent pace and need a ton more practice on single track.

I slimmed mine down too. I am friends with the guy that makes the carbon fibre guards for E-Line Offroad and he used to make the tanks for Yamahas offroad team. He had a mold for the WR and made me a 3 gallon YZ slim tank and I used a YZ seat with it. Ill try to post a pic of it.

I can predict that you are really going to like that 500. Get the jetting sorted first thing and the power gets really smooth. Cam.
