As I now have some nice new rads (cheers Gowen and jonnyweis :-D) it would seem prudent to protect them, looking around theres a couple of different makes out there...
Works Connection, and Zipty racing, any more?

I have the Works pieces. I was NOT impressed with the fit. I had to do a lot of bending, enlarging holes, and so on to get them to fit properly. Once I was done, they are rugged, and will do a great job at preventing a twisted rad in the event of a crash.
-
I also have the Works Connection braces, but they fit just fine.

I really liked the looks of my Devol guards, they worked great as I never bent a rad. Though as you will know, I had one come apart (rad guard just fell to pieces basicly).

Works Conn. no bending, holes were perfect and no alignment problems. http://www.kxriders.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=89&pos=13
Cost was more than I wanted to pay. They stamp their name and logo on the parts and charge 25% more for that. That's my guess.
I have dumped my bike and they do their job.

I must have gotten a pair that was stamped and drilled from the factory on a Friday afternoon (after a "liquid lunch"). :-P

Your raditors could have already been tweeked.

I have the Devol guards and they work fine. I did not install them the guy I bought the bike from installed them just before I got it.

I passed on the Devols, as I hear they aggrivate overheating as a result from mud sticking to the outer guard. (not an issue if you don't ride in mud, obviously)

I find that the stock plastic guards work fine. With the devol guards the stock guards have to be removed and the devol guards mount up aganst the radiator blocking half of the air that would pass through with the stock guards. I don't do much mud riding on the KX but the mud I have been in stuck to the stock plastic guards and did not make it to the radiator fins.

The d**n stock guards kept falling off, even after buying new rads and new guards, it wasn't even a little time at the track before they would tumble off and get run over.

Its a common issue on the 250's and the 500's. It's the vibration that chews the crap out of the plastic mount posts. I wad some Permatex silicone RTV around the posts, and install the guards. This minimizes the vibration.

I agree, I had the crank balanced and trued and that fixed the vibes issue. Along with some other mods. I didn't have that problem long after.
As to the Devol, I did hard drag races with the Devol's and never had an issue with overheating at all. Just would stress and break after awhile. Also, did alot of top-end runs too.
