Title: New to dirt and to the forum - Colorado
Post by: mjowen on March 05, 2018, 04:48:12 AM
Hey, everyone!

Wanted to check in...i'm new to dirt, new to the forum, and new to Kawi in general!

I live in Denver, CO and am primarily a street rider (Yamaha R6). I've had a couple quads through the years but nothing I ever really did much with. I've been wanting to pick up a couple dirt bikes due to where I live and figured might as well get into it now.

I was having drinks Saturday morning (always the best time to make purchases) and found a 1999 KX250 with a locked motor a couple hours away so decided to pull the trigger on it. Overall it's in good shape minus the motor but being a two stroke i think it'll be an easy fix since i'll be doing the work myself. This will also be the first rebuild I've done on a dirtbike or a two stroke so i'm looking forward to it. Picked the bike up for 500 bucks.

Plan for it will be as follows:
- Most likely a top and bottom rebuild
- New plastics
- New graphics
- Chain kit
- Powdercoat the frame (prior owner attempted to paint the frame black and its of course chipping so I think i'll strip it down to the frame to have that done)

I've got friends at a few bike shops so could get hookup on most things so am hoping this will be a pretty easy but fun project

Looking forward to all the information on the site and might even shoot some of you a message for help along the way haha!!

Appreciate it!

I might have to do that...

I'm going to go through the bike tonight and put a little parts/to do list together. Stand comes in on Wednesday so will start on it then, i think. Going to start with the top end and just go from there!

Been reading and searching stuff most of the day haha.
