I liked it also but and this is a big but.
What if it had been a bike that  looked like
his friends bike.  Had he been mistaken it
opens up a big lawsuit.
Still way cool to kick a scum bag off a bike.

I thought I read that he told the guy that was his friend's stolen bike and the guy took off after that.  That being said, I would really worry about the legal ramifications of kicking a guy off a bike too. Even if it was your friends and it was stolen, you could get sued for using excessive force.
