Title: KTM KX500 CHRISTINI AWD GREEN PUMPKIN
Post by: ID KX500 on November 21, 2013, 11:19:09 AM
After a few worrisom days of wondering how a package from Kuwait might get to me, it arrived. A big thanks to NAF on thumpertalk for working the deal with me for a frame he decided not to use.

I have a frame with AWD including the forks, tank, front hub, and a KX500 motor to install. The remaining parts I am still in the market for.

The amount of time for this projuct is wide open, but hopefully complete by spring. I will try to keep track of the progress right here in this thread. Stay tuned!!!

Man that thing is going to be bad ass! It would be really sweet to ride it side by side with the christini 300 two stroke and see which one handles/rides better...

i think the handling would be similar between 300 and 500 only diference the bigger masses that rotate in the k5-engine that makes it a little bit more tricky...  :-)...  the 300 engine could be ridden like a 250... you will feel no much diference to the 250engine...

now my question: is this a 2stroke or a 4stroke ktm-frame?  by the way, cant wait to see the finish... ktm kx500 awd ..could be the first one ever made.. :-)

Hey motopunk the frame is from a 4stroke 450 EXC. The guy who had it made was trying to put 4stroke 450 SX parts into the frame (if I have the story right) and it wouldn't work.

Small update I have the motor getting reemed for the KTM pivot bolt and a 6mm spacer made. Then I plan to meet with the welder and get the other motor mounts figured out.

the swap what the preowner of your frame was trying does only work with the first-generation sxf-450 engines to the exc-frame. the newer sx-engines are complete diferent compared to the exc engines.

nice progress what you made . cant wait to see a video of the finished bike in action...  :-)

here is a little video with christini-bikes. look at the end to the 2wd-bicycle that is shown there...

isnt the CPI a sand pipe?

You will lose a bit of bottom end, the gains in mid and top are incedible. This pipe beats the SH FMF out of the water, and fits better.

The bottom may not be affected too much since it has a heavy flywheel Power D ignition and he had the pipe purpose built, but who cares about bottom on a stump puller anyway:)

Yes, Foxx those are Myler radiators, there were a couple of issues with stock mounting, that Eric Myler corrected for me, and might I add, in only a few hours.

I highly recommend using MYLER for all your radiator needs. (free ad cause they do such good work)

ah ha!...I thought so...thanks ID!!
I was actually checking his sight out over the weekend...
http://www.motorcycleradiators.com/

I've been looking for an aftermarket set for my 250...it's tuff shopping for rads, because of the "fitment" issues we all hear about.
But I did read a lot of very positive feedback about Eric fixing any issues very quickly.

Like Don and alward said the bike has good bottom,,, don't let the rack on the back throw you, it's for a milk crate and 2 minute trips to the grocery store for the wifie,,,no putt putt.

Mike at CPI is a very cool guy and knows pipes. He did suggest I re-core the silencer which is for 250s and 300s, I think it was a good call.

So another good word for a great small business doing a great job when a custom need comes along.

If you could combine a trip to the beach with some dirt bike riding, then it would truly be paradise.  In fact, I think there is some decent land to ride on the big island of Hawaii.  Now if I could just convince American Airlines that my bikes are luggage, I would be set.   :-D

These guys rent real dirt bikes, along with dual sport, I rented their KLR650 to take the wife around the Road to Hana.

I could'n't proceed with the bike build without doing a couple of things I had not done.
1- Compression release
2- powdercoat  CPI pipe, swingarm , footpegs, kickstand, chaincover (was KTM orange so wrong for the GreenPumpkin)
3- New swingarm bearings

It seems like this is taking longer than I expected, but the shop is sure a lot dirtier than the last time I posted, so I must be doing something.
Anyway the graphics are from DeCal Works a guy by the name of Sean helped line me out with these. I couldn't be happier at how easy it was to have Kawasaki green on the Pumpkin, not to mention the company logos,,, KTM,,,Kawasaki,,,Christini,,, they make it easy to do a wide variety of what you want your way.

Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.

hahaha,,, I'm sure I want to post, been waiting for this day a long time.  :-D

OK, I apologize for the ridiculous amount of time this project took but some priorities got in the way. So I decided not to post till the build was complete. I have some photos and a bit of video. the bike started right up but the SmartCarb needs some tinkering to get it adjusted right.

Alward helped me with the MZB and it fired right up. Problem was the SmartCarb was way too rich, I won't get back to it for a while.  I do plan to get some video.

Just got done talking to my co-worker/buddy who got home from the RM Emig ride this weekend. He was talking about a guy up there who has a AWD Christini KX500 in a KTM frame and I have to assume it is you? How was the ride? I did it last year on my KLR an it was most definitly a bucket list ride.

If you are still around, you have to be talking about Jimmy

That indeed I would be, he actually showed me your update off a Facebook post before I had seen the update on here. How is the five hunnit treating you? Thing looks epic fun.
