Going a differnt route with the k5
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:14:56 AM »
I've decided to take my k5 motor out and out it in my 87 trx250r frame. I cut the motor mounts out last night and out the motor in frame to take measurements. The pivot bolt is 15mm for both the trx and kx so that will work fine I'm going to Fab mounts for the rest of them and they will have rubber in them to cut down on motor vibes. My only concerns are the sprockets lining up, the kick starter won't clear the frame so I gotta fig that out, the clutch lever also will not clear its a good 3-4 inches inside the frame, and lastly the frame and mounts staying together with this motor. Anyone got any ideas on this build?

Nice post not exactly the same as a trx frame. Hows the vibes? Is it all that you thought it would be. Speed wise and dependability?

it doesnt vibrate bad at all.  I rebuilt the engine since this build and spent extra time truing the crank.
my boys can spend all day on it in the dunes. It does ware me out quicker though due to all the torque.
It has a ported cyl. and windowed piston with Vforce 2 reeds and a 44 Lectron and Dave Roberts worked my head over and upped the compression I had to install a compression release to be able to kick it.
it has a lot of power and is my favorit bike I havent spent the money and bought good tires yet so dont now how it will do in a drag race but should do well.

Sounds awesome read ur thread all the way threw and it turned out nice. I'm thinking of adding new square tubing in the front from top to bottom to mount the front of the motor. After looking at several big bore type quads that's how they are mounted so I figured its that way for a reason. The problem I see that u don't have is the clutch lever on urs it stuck outside the frame so u could use it. On my trx frame its inside the frame a good 3-4 inches. Can I use the same idea you used on ur kickstarter to actually move it out far enough? Ill have to do it for sure on my kickstarter. U have any problems with over heating? Or did u upgrade the radiator to a oversized one? I've read the ppl doing the trx with cr500 mention needing a bigger radiator. The k5 motor is balanced better then cr500 motor so I know vibes won't be as bad. I'm thinking of using a trx250r pipe like a lrd big bore pipe so no cutting except for flange.
