im ghetto, but its worked out for me. tell me your ghetto story
« on: November 11, 2009, 03:46:24 AM »
i took my rear exhaust apart and the packing is completely gone and the little tube that is full of holes that connects from one end of the muffler to the other end is really messed up. i went ahead and welded a pipe in there only to one end. i drilled a bunch of holes onto the little pipe and packed it full of packing. its in a way now that i can repack it easily when the time comes again. the bike runs great, and isnt as loud as i thought. im ghetto  :-D    :-D

Hey Bennien
Glad to hear from you, I wouldn't say everyone does it by the book.  I think alot of us found that things work out best in the long run if you try to stick to the book.

You will also notice no-one jumped up and bashed you either...  sometimes you have to do,, what you have to do...
I read a book that kinda went something like this,
He who has not jerry rigged something at some point, can cast the first stone... :-D

And lo, I did loft the front wheel and carried it forth to the unbelievers, and cast it down before them and said unto them ''look now upon the might of my throttle control ye pitiful cretinous ones''
And the unbelievers did quake in their boots....

I haven't had any 4wheelers, but I do know how addicting that rush is when you wind up the 5oo  :-D
I wish I had the denaro to build one with engine & suspension work.

K-man, yep. I also agree saving $'s doing the work yourself as opposed to just dropping it of for someone else to do.
It's rare to find a chap that will take as much care doing your work as carefully as he would if it were his own bike.

I'm interested in more pics of the K5 powered banshee. I just started looking for a banshee rolling chassis about a month ago for this exact reason.

I too have had my fair share of fabricating something to make it easier or save money and sometimes both. Sometimes I do it just because someone said it couldn't be done lol

youll mount the motor easy. the stock banshee tank must be melted with a torch on the bottom where the fuel petcock is for clearance. its not hard. be careful. i messed up one tank. had to use an extra one. the stock banshee radiator works perfect. just look for automotive radiator hoses that will snake into the shape you want. the kx500 will need to be cut into pieces in order to make the shapes you need in order to get it out the right side cleanly. the pipe went under the seat into the muffler. we added pieces into the pipe in order to fill in gaps. you will have to zoom in. the stock rear brake plunger hanging on the right side will have to be moved inward so that the kicker can clear. youll see. its easy. the frame where the air cleaner will go will need to cut out alittle tiny bit to clear . youll see. im sorry, but this is the only picture i have left. this was from two years ago. ive been thru a few computer since then and have lost many things.....one thing is that the bike will vibrate like crazy so get some nice grips . the bike was really fun and beat alot of four strokes and other mildly built banshees up the sand hills. they didnt know what the hell hit them. have fun. youll see the bike will be tons of fun.

Sounds easy enough. Thanks for all the detail/knowledge. When I find a rolling chassis I'll start a build thread.

hey i found another one. i had to break out the old computer and snap a photo before it shut off again. this is how the pipe was run. we altered the kx500 pipe by cutting it into pieces and adding wedges where needed. you will need to really be creative to make sure the kick starter goes all the way back up. hope this helps. i wish i would have taken more photos.
