kx125 2004 KIPS
« on: September 22, 2011, 05:22:06 AM »
Hi!

The thrust of my kx125 2004 occurs rather abrupt at about 1/3 of the rpm band.
I know about the torque curves of screamers, but this is my second kx125 from 2004, and the first one revved up really smooth.

I don?t think this is a jetting issue, because i?ve got the symptom at any throttle position.
(And i?m running almost stock jetting)

I checked the kips-function.
I can slide the whole mechanism from this position:

to this position:

without any resistance.
(Sorry for the bad pics)

I noticed that i have to pull up the actuator arm about 5mm for attaching it to the bolt.

What else should i check?

thx

you need to set the valve to its closed/lowest position when the engine is not running.

So i don?t have to pull the arm up when attaching it to the bolt?
How can it be adjusted?

sorry i am not familiar with the o4 125 engine. im sure i could tell with some more pics though. its sounds like your on the right track, you should not need to move the power valve during assembly if it is in the low speed/closed position. take some more pics so i can see the whole mechanisim

The drawings look like the KIPS of this engine is not adjustable, as it isn?t operated by a "gear" like the k5?s kips.
I also got a repair manual which doesn?t mention adjusting possibilities.

I took off the KIPS side cover and watched the mechanism when the engine was running.
The actuator arm moves up and down as abrupt as the power does, no matter if it is attached to the bolt or not.
So i guess the centrifugal mechanism in the bottom end is to blame.
Or could this 0/1 mode of operation be stock?
