as the title says ive owned loads of bigbore 500's. cr480, ktm 380, ktm500, cr500 (lots of) and currently own a ktm450 chassis with a cr500 engine fitted. its been built to factory rc500 specs too by a proper ex hrc technician in the uk.
un fortunately, long story short, my ktm is in 'holdings' for 3 months so wanted a new playbike.
id heard about a cheap kx500 going so bought it blind and the thought was to fit to a newer 250 chassis..... except... oh bollox the kx500 was mint when i got round to seeing it! i just didnt have the heart to pull the motor out.
in the meantime id bought a 2006 kx250 for the transplant which on the basis i had a few spare cr500 engine one has worked its way into it (sorry kawasaki fans!)
as for the kx500.... well im pretty impressed. the bike is a 1987 model and is as near to 'new old stock' as possible. 1 owner from new, original everything barring a fmf endcan. it was really good to test the engine out.
not the same instant grunt as the cr5 but far more controllable and more top end poke than a standard cr.great clutch, really light.
excellent brakes (even compared to mordern stuff), soft but well damped suspension. only the kickstart shape and my leg burning on the exhausts were the downsides lol
ill thank you all now for all the future help this site will give me
