Front exhaust pipe for 1985 KX500 needed,can other years fit?

Just bought an 83 air cooled 500 and an 85 500.I need a front pipe for the 85.Can other newer years pipe's be adapted to fit?Thanks!

hi fella, my 86 (same shape, frame etc) wore an 88-04 fmf pipe just fine, as long as u use a little imagination with the mounts, no cutting or altering of pipe required....
also, pro circuit make a pipe for the 86 which bar powervalves porting and rear brake is identical, dont know if they make one for 85 but if they do it will be part number pk85500p. the 86 part number is pk86500p.this is a mid/top end pipe.the 88 on fmf pipe i had was a low end pipe, part number 020055.hope this helps.

my friend has an 85 kx500. i have never tried but it looks like my 86s' pipe would bolt right up.
pro circuit doesn't make a pipe for 85, 86 oldest year. kwakman is right doesn't take much to make a 88 up work if need be. i would just wonder the spigot size. maybe you can measure your id of exhaust flange, someone here could verify for you.
if 86 would fit i have an old fmf which i fixed up, welded extra mounts to and installed on my 86. i rode the bike barely an hour and smacked a tree pretty hard with it. moved it back. if you think you can fix id sell it for next to nothing. the stinger is made to fit an 88 up silencer.

Missed your reply about that auction,d**n!In the meantime i managed to get hold of a pipe for an 88 bike,it's an original one and is in as new condition.The biggest problem with fitting it is the right hand side radiator!It needs to be unmounted and moved up about 1 inch!If the pipe is fitted without moving the radiator the pipe doesn't sit at the correct angle in the exhaust port in the cylinder head.To have the exhaust fitted correctly at the exhaust port the whole pipe has to be twisted round and up so the top mount fits under the gas tank.I don't really know whether to go this route now and mess up a good original pipe (Cutting rear mounts that i can't use etc) 'and' move my radiator?

buy an fmf or pc,they dont have that ridiculous kink near the rad.it is close to the rad but does clear it and having the pipe rotated slightly wont hurt, exhaust gases dont know what angle the pipe is at.hth.K.
