I'd have a really hard time buying new because I'd wanna tear it down & go through it.

Oh believe me, I end up going through every bike I get. Even if I buy a bike that looks mint, there's usually a weekend of fixing to do to bring it up to SJJ standards  :-D.

I bought my 2002 KTM 640 New..    I brought it home IN THE CRATE... as I wouldnt allow the dealer to work on it.. Not even remove from the crate......

Guess what the first thing I did was??

Stripped it down to the Frame... and put it all back together CORRECTLY... greased.. torqued ... etc...

Yep.. new bike out of the box, and I striped it down...

Yes.. Im slightly Obsessive compulsive.. or... Anal as some of you have put it..

The BRP is the s**t. The only downsides I see are fuel economy & no odometer to get an idea of how much use it's had.

That is a sweet looking bike. What kind of mileage do you get. I know you can get a million gallon tank, but...
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

i have a TrailTech Vapor on mine. Gives me a speedo, tach, odo, and water temp. Cant beat it!

As far as mileage goes, i figure i've been getting about 35-45mpg out in the desert.

As far as tanks go... thats a 4.6 gal on there, i have the factory 3.2 and a larger 6.6 gal tank

Been doin' this for years on all our new race bikes.  I wouldn't call it anal, it's doing what the factory didn't. :-)

1995 xr650l for $950

Good parts availability where they were made forever.

Now to figure out what I'm gonna do to it. Thinking 1mm overbore, stage 1 cam, port the head, & a pumper carb. Need to try & get this one jetted & XR Dave modified first though, if I like it I might go big bore & pass on the pumper for awhile.
