92 500 conversion
« on: June 09, 2011, 02:38:44 PM »
Think ill have a go at this.
Starting with my 92 kx250, what runs fine, but i cant resist
kx500 engine showed up in the mail a few days ago, and it looks like it has one of those stealth bolts Kaw rider is selling, not sure though

From what ive gathered from this helpful site, ill be needing to the following:
Modify the swing arm
Modify the front mounting bracket and headstay
Make room with the gas tank
Get a cr500 pipe and weld on a kx inlet
Modify the air box?

Will post some pics when i start digging into it.

Got the engine in. Pretty straight forward, drilled the back of it to fit the larger swing arm shaft, and removes the front mounting bracket. im able to use the lower mount. Going to move my attention the front mount, then head stay.

man these things are beasts to turn over!!

Its surprising how well they fit in the 250 frame! Its like it was supposed to go in there. Good luck with it, its a fun project.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

 Progress!
Looks good so far Bro, Thanks for posting pics.  You never know who will be looking for encouragement on their project.
Seeing someone else's fitment ideas has to be helpful.
You never know, someone may start to put together more "Kit" Pieces like J-Fab has made in the past for
AF conversions.

If it wasnt for this site, this project would definitely be alot more frustrating.

Got my headstay together, its not pretty but it should work. I take it the head stay is meant to absorb some kind of vibration or something? its the only thing i can think why they used aluminum plates rather than steel.

Got some ride time in today :-D. beats me why you guys need more power out of these things!? what a rush.

i had to chop and weld the pipe in 5 places so i wouldnt recommend using a older fmf gnarly for this kind of project
