So long Alaska, hello Oregon, again
« on: June 03, 2011, 05:23:38 PM »
After 4 years in Kodiak, Alaska I am now back in Astoria, Oregon!!!  Back to the land of getting parts fast without crazy expensive shipping!! I drove the AlCan highway with my Dad and 8 year old son and we had a blast!  After we put a new transmission in the motorhome at mile 90 from Homer.  A condition I was hoping to nurse along but after a few miles down the road I knew that was not going to happen.  I got hooked up at a shop in Kenai and they went way out of their way to get my transmission overhauled.  I had to pull it and put it back in.  No big deal.  It put us 5 days behind schedule but we made up for it.  We kept a running tally of all the critters we saw and it was like wild kingdom.  Black and brown bears, moose, elk, buffalo, big horn sheep, porcupine, deer and a few others.  I unloaded my bike and had my Dad drive and I put about 120 miles on my bike.
I was shocked that if I just cruised at about 60 mph 4000 rpm I got near 60 MPG!!!!!  I was on asphalt and did some horsing around but not too much.  Just wheelies over every bridge :-D  Here is a picture @ Tok.
