montana paddlefishing trip 2011
« on: May 24, 2011, 04:31:33 AM »
just got back from our paddlefishing trip to montana. it was flat nasty up there with all the rain and severe flooding. our camper came close to flooding out while we were gone north fishing for 1/2 the day saturday. my buddy was kind enough to wade the water and hook up to it and pull to higher ground. disaster avoided. the yellowstone river rose 10-12 feet in the 2 days we were there. all the paddlefishing access areas are closed now due to extreme high water. we made a 300 mile detour to get back home due to I-90 and secondary road closures. we made it home safe and at least we got 1 fish. i did not get to weigh this monster but estimate it at 95-105 pounds. in the last picture, thats 40 pounds of eggs!  hope you like the pics.

Learn something new all the time. I'd have never guessed fish got that big in Montana. Is it out of a deep lake? Looks like you could do an Outdoor Channel show this year.

caught in the yellowstone river, they run up the river to spawn. then they return to lake sakakawea. they don't bite, snagging only. it's a real workout and muscles get sore that you didn't realize you even had. i'd love to do an outdoor special, just waiting for the outdoor channel to call me!  :-P
