All right, now what?
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:26:27 AM »
I now have cases with the swingarm hole bored to accept the 250 sized bolt.  However, they weren't machined on the sides to fit between the swingarm.  I'm thinking that I'll machine the swingarm to fit instead of the cases.

Does the original width of the 500 engine fit the aluminum framed bikes?

Any input on this decision?

Crim,
I dont know about the AF conversion, but Don46 has posted about the Steel Frame that you originally posted about. His post showed the cases being drilled for the pivot bolt but he machined the swingarm bushings (not the engine) & the swingarm to accomodate the K5 motor, which I think is a better solution.

I ground the bushings down.
If I can do it, it must be easy...
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

I think I like that idea much better also.... if you mess up, or decide to change the motor over to anything else in the future. (the new latest greatest frame comming out made of Ground up Unicorn horns, and suspension filled with smashed up pixie juice)... swingarm bushings are cheap vs cases...

If you have a old pivot pin with a nut, and a bench grinder, then you can do it too  :-D

Now that sounds like my kinda work.  Measure with a yardstick, mark it with chalk, cut it with a torch.

Plenty of space in the swingarm to cut. I did it to mine and it was pretty easy.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

I did some measuring.  Looks like 3/8 per side.  Does that sound right?

Next step is to powder coat the frame and assemble the engine.  Gotta farm out both of those jobs.

Nice to start this project moving again.

One more question.  The head stay.  Is there anyone on here that makes them anymore?
