kx 125 91 no 2nd gear

I have a 91 kx125 which will not locate second gear when bike is running or not 

i can feel it wanting to bite a little bit when running but simply does not work

any help would be appreciated

And To  jonny500  I can get 1st gear  2nd gear is not selectable and goes into a neutralish  BUT i can hear it rattle Quetly LIKE ITS SAY SLIPPING IN 2ND ?  I CAN SELECT NEATRUAL
3RD 4TH 5TH AND I THINK 6TH

Any ideas appreciated

The only things I would think of would be a shift fork or a shift drum problem. They are easy fixes once you split the cases, but unfortunately splitting the cases isn't so simple and brief.

Drain the oil and see if there is metal grit or shavings in it.

You could also pull the clutch cover and take a look to see if there is anything malfunctioning in there before splitting the cases. Check the shift cam where the wheel rides on to hold it in gear. If you can get 3rd, 4th, etc. this probably isn't it, but it's worth a check.

i would say you have a defective 2nd gear, either on the input, output or both. if you could not select the other gears i would have said it was a gear selector problem, i.e could probably be sorted from the out side. looks like your gona have to split the cases. :-(
