Kx 250 kickstart problems

Hi
I've recently had problems with the kickstart on my kx250 2000.
It very rarely catches enough to get a decent kick to start the bike
It slips more than engages. I haven't yet taken the casing off to see
If I can see the problem myself, has anyone else had this.
Also do other year kx250 kickstart mechanisms fit the 2000 model

Hi Don.
Your kick starter spur and idler gears are most likely bad.
Possibly your shaft as well.
As an assembly you want to look at 99-01 KX250.

Thanks for the info this will help. I'm hoping to get the casing off this wkend
To see the damage. I don't think I can deal with bumping it off all the time

Well I managed to get the casing off today and when looking at the kickstart mechanism all the gears and splines were all good. The problem was that the small spring that engages the rachet was weak. So an easy and cheap fix
