New England K5ers
« on: March 07, 2011, 03:05:05 AM »
How many on here are from New England?
State maybe?
What kind of riding do you do?
Where do you ride?

I'm in mid-coast Maine
Mostly ride on ice now, Canadian screw class on any lake they will plow a track on.
Trail ride now and then more then lately. Mostly in the Windham to sanford/hollis area.

Bob, I'm in NY but grew up in Windham / North Gorham area. I rode A LOT in the 23 years that I lived there. Otter ponds (standish), blue rock sand pit (windham) and pole lines all over. My brother says that all those places are now closed to riding.  :x

Hi Don

Some are places are closed down because people got hurt and tried to sue land owner. :x

There is still alot of trail riding though, but it is going away quickly. But we have more MX tracks and riding parks opening.

I mostly ride on Pettingill pond, and little & big sebago in windham. will post pics as soon as I can figure it out.

computer challenged at best :-D

very cool! I swam in big sebago many times. Fryes leap used to be a blast. I wonder if they still allow people to jump off that rock ledge? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47PdZyLlxD0&feature=related this is not me! I did jump off the lower part on the right. I never jumped from the top.  :-o

How do you dodge the ice traps? Everyone icefishes up in maine it seems!  :-D

Not everyone, been a couple times as a teenager (many moons ago) never broke ice and fish is not what we caught
The fishing guys get all p-off with us. I keep telling them I'm coraling the fish for them, no sense of humor none.
But they do like a plowed surface to fish on, 60 plus fly bys for those idiots.

This is it, two of us plus a transplant.
Wow, no wonder I never see anyone on a K5 around here.
I'm sure there must be more, but they must be hibernating now :-D.

from  (tax)achusetts myself.....I was really feeling like the odd man here....K5 guys up here in the Northeast are kinda rare, at least in my neck of the woods.
Havnt had time to get out on the bike yet. But a quick walk thru the trails with the dog was  similar to walking on loose peanut butter. the mud season is longer than it needs to be here. most people around here cannot hold out for areas to dry up and end up tearing it up and rutting everything with there utility quads...bummer....some guilty guys on bikes too.....i guess everybody has the irresistable itch.

East or west
I did a lot of racing in mass in the 90s. Southwick, middleboro, spencer, sturbridge.
There are a few of us big bike guys around, and hopefully another one soon.
If I can sell my back up bike. (I'm a hoarder)
If you get good safe ice, stud your bike and ride all year long. There's nothing like it :-D
We have those guy's here too, there has to be one in every crowd.

Southern Mass (Middleboro) here.  I'm done with hibernating and took out the K5 last weekend.  It was a little chilly but the ride was worth it.  I mostly ride trails and sandpits.   A few of my buddies are trying to talk me into racing at Capeway Rovers this weekend, but I think the K5 will be too much to handle on a small MX track... Hopefully we can all get together some time.

I agree a bit much for that track unless you have the thick head gasket in it, then it's not to bad. (it would be good for starts though) :-D
I had bought a 89 once could ride it pretty hard on a mx track. My buddy had bought a new 89 and I couldn't on that bike, it was hard to race but fun to ride.
When I freshend it up, it had the thick gasket in it, that's why it was so tame to ride.

Be great to meet fellow K5ers.

I'm not from the New England area, but did alot of work up there.  I stayed in Sturbridge, MA  for almost a year and boy was that a nice place.  Watched many Ice Races there and Hillclimbs @ Monson.
America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, bad-ass speed.

Hey weymouth,  Wally's racetrack in Spencer is still there...its been a private practice track for years now. Actualy ran into John Dowd and Doug Henry riding ther a few years back before he busted himself up good. that was cool.... Did you ever race Warren Mx  ? that wasnt far from Sturbridge....that is also still there...its really beat up now. and grown in but the permanant scar of MX is there. I had a buddy who raced there alot back in the day.

Hi Grenncannon

I raced the supercross at the fair grounds in spencer. Black dog supercross
Ice raced at Sturbridge.
Never at Warren. I was deep into the NESC at the time.
I raced with the junkyard dog a few times. let me change that to, I was in the same race as JD but in a different zipcode. He lapped every one once and all but 2nd twice in the 30 plus class.
My dirt racing days ended when I hyper extended my knee, only bad things happened then
So it's mostly ice riding now, summers are for racing in the cage now.
Someone once said (when you age you need a cage)
Check out WWW.nelcar.net you will figure out which ones me.

Hi Guys,

Another Mass guys here.  After a long winters wait, I took a ride up to New England Dragway last weekend to check out their motocross track and to pickup a few gallons of the VP C12 race gas.  The motocross track look pretty good, from what I could see.   I'm planning on heading back up there with my bike (03 KX500) in a few weeks.  It will be interesting to see how I'm able to swing the monster around that track.
