AMSoil 2cycle oil

Does anyone use either the Dominator or Intercepter oils from AMSoil? I have used Golden Spectro for 20 years in all of my bikes from 125's to the 500's and have had great results. I am curious about the AMSoil because I can get it at half the price of the Spectro.

interceptor is great premix,  I use the dominator.  Both burn nice and clean.  I run it @ 50:1

i run mine at 40:1 or maybe 38:1

Off of amsoils website..

dominator
* Not suitable for long-term use in outboard motors as a TC-W3 type oil, although excellent as a race oil for short-term use where motors are periodically inspected.

also... MSDS. can give you a good idea of what oils do if you get the motor hot. (flashpoint)  id suggest you do some reasearch in that department..

Amsoil dominator Flash Point............................................198?F(92?C)

Belray MC1   Flashpoint...................................................208F

Klotz Super Techniplate (very good oil in the dunes sceen)..............  460F

The following 2 dont give exact numbers... just that is it greater than the number listed...  I have seen reports that castor 927 is actually in the 500F range.

Castor 927  Flashpoint....................................................> 392?f

Royal Purple Racing Flashpoint ......................................... >260F

Thanks for the info. I looked up the msds sheets on the interceptor ( 186 degrees F) and dominator (453 degrees F) oils. There must be some difference between the two. Golden Spectro was (176 degrees F).

Not sure where you got your dominator spec... (were you looking at their dominator car oil?)  but it is 198F

Its fun if you have an old piston.. and alot of oils around...    heat a piston up.. and start dropping differant oils on it and see what happens..

I know I can drop Castor 927 on a piston and it will sizzle and run over the entire face.... then drop on some of the Royal Purple I run (which has a higher flashpoint than many).. and it just lights on fire...

Ive actually started blending 2 stroke oils... as I didnt like what was avail..  But this is an entire differant animal.. that average Joe doesnt want to get into...

yeah, I was lookin' at some 10-30w . The flash point on it is so high maybe I ought to mix it :-D.
My Golden Spectro is 176degrees, maybe I'll just stick with it. 20 yrs. of good service is nothing to sneeze at.

If its worked for you for that long.. no reason to change...

People will argue oil to the death.. Reason I try to tell people to do some research, MSDS will tell you alot if you read it... from there you go look to see what the companys are using as base stock, etc.... and that way you can make an educated choice.. without me ever mentioning a brand name...

what works for JOE woods rider doesnt work for Jack the dunes guy.. or Jim the desert racer...

I started mixing my own.. just because I liked Company A's synthetic base stock (and aditive package). and I liked Company B's Castor oil for that extra UMPH in protection etc. as I was always a castor guy, till i got powervalves, and running straight race fuel (castor separates in it)..

I have a row of 12 mason jars on my shelf that havnt been disturbed for about 2 years now, with differant mix's in them, both in fuel, and not... to see what plays nice and what didnt. also alot of research, and calling the various companys... and finding a castor oil that will mix with synthetic..) before I settled on my current blend..

Im still waiting for a Margarita recipe!...   would go nice with all the Grilled cheese recipes to be found on this site..
