Sweet conversion. How do you get along with the no link suspension? I have only taken a short joy ride with a 525 , i liked the nimbleness , but really didn't have long enough to evaluate the rear suspension. Looks like a really straight forward conversion. For general info , the Service Honda KX pipe is actually a CR500 pipe with a KX head portion grafted to it.

  Thats cool about the pipe--I didn't know that.  To me the no-link suspension works really well in outdoor type Moto-cross.  It doesn't seem near as plush as linkage type suspension though.  For the style of riding that I do, I really like no-link suspension.  It always seems that the faster i go, the better it feels.  Getting the spring rates right on it, is critical, and setting proper race sag.

Hey Kracer, where are you in Colorado?  I just moved to Highlands Ranch from SoCal and am looking for people to ride with.  I have a post in here somewhere about my build (01 250 frame with the k5 transplant) - I have to swap out the head gasket and rebuild my headstay ~ again, but will be ready to go riding soon.  Can't wait to try out the dunes in Walden.

That's an interesting critique of the 500 AF's...if you read around long enuf, you find posts that say the same thing.  Many times it's someone who knows what they're looking for in regards to handling as opposed to just having an alu-framed 500 2stroke.  I owned an '00 cr250 and liked the handling but never had it in the rocks.  Honda has always been fiddling with the alu frames to find the compliancy of the old steelies but they doo look good.  I like the steel perimeter frame kx500 and the handling seems very forgiving.  Tough decisions....

I just got my new engine in the bike and tuned for the elevation.

I had both a 2004 CR-500AF, and a 2007 CR-500AF.  I felt like both frames were way to "small" for the 500 motors--I spent big money on springs, suspension work (Through MX-Tech) and considerable time testing these bikes--Plus we had to do alot of work to the bikes, when we recieved them from Service Honda--Chain alignment--
   To be honest,(And I know this is going to offend alot of people out there, especially when they spend big money on their AF conversions) I don't think that I have ridden any aluminium framed bikes, that I would call "good handlers".  Especially when mated to a 2-stroke motor.  I have ridden some 4 stroke motored aluminium framed bikes that I thought were decent, but not "great".--But, this is my opinion--And, what I have noticed through my own trial, and error.
  Like I said in an earlier post--to me it's all about confidence.  And what I think is a good-handling motorcycle, some-one else might think is junk also.--Kracer

I agree with this man a 100%, I had no luck so far with a frame that was designed for 20 or 30 foot pounds of torque then drop in 45 foot pounds with a 500 2 smoker with another 10 or 20 more HP of a 500.These smaller displacement frames and bikes were not desined for that IMO!

2003 and earlier models from KTM have a 15mm swingarm bolt,
so you dont have to bore the cases of the K5....
