Introductions
« on: February 22, 2011, 03:24:38 AM »
Hey- this is Craig!  I am new to the kx riders forum but, since I love my k5 beast I figured this would be a great place to meet some kx lovers and get some good advice for the bike now and again....I started riding back in 2005, I purchased a 1986 KX 500 and raced her in the Michigan Vintage Series for the past  five years..I have owned an RM 125, CR 250 2003, CR 250 1986, KX 500 1989, and of course my KX  500 1986.....with that said, my favorite bike is my 1986, I love the power in her and she delivers when needed, I don't ride super fast so suspension mods are a little irrelevant..I am 47 years I just ride for fun...can't get hurt because I got a job and children to support, so riding like I am 19 like a maniac, at super high speeds and large jumps is OUT OF THE QUESTION!!!

Ok, I sold all my bikes except for one:::: 1986 KX 500- this year I decided to do something different to her---I tore her down completely and have given her a complete new and fresh look, she is gonna look more contemporary, but, still keep the power of the old Beast...I decided to go Black with her....right now she is all apart in my basement, the frame is gloss black, swingarm is black, forks are gold, triple clamps black, and plastics and tank black...the engine is silver, black bars, wheels are black, but will have RED radiator hoses, and a RED rear shock, I have updated the plastics too..Newer front number plate with 07 front and 07 rear fender...she's gonna look sweet, and since Chad Reed is my favorite rider, decided to go with number 22, white backgrounds with black numbers....omg she's gonna look killer....the tank and shrouds look stealthy since I painted them with Duplicolor Bedliner and it leaves a textured look to it, but, based upon my research, it will hold up to to gas fumes the seep through the plastic tank, conventional paint methods don't seem to hold up and eventually bubble the paint on a plastic tank....I just joined and will post pics later......I joined the forum to do research on how to do this...I have spent hours reading the forums to get advice..so now it is time for me to reveal myself and my love for my kx 500 and how she is gonna be born again.....I believe that my KX500 will be one if not the most incredible looking 500 to hit the planet.....j/k.....but, seriously, she is gonna look great..I love the green and have pics from her when she had the green plastics....but, wanted to do some unconventional stuff to her to re-invent her but keeping the power of the beast alive...take care, Craig

Hey Craig,
Welcome to the group,  Glad you signed up and have been able to use some of the info the guys have recorded.
There is a small following of the early bike years, and as far as riding like I'm 19.....most of us are on the same page.
Work, kids, mortgage, Yadda Yadda...  So your in good company!
