1984 K5
« on: February 06, 2011, 08:28:11 AM »
This 84 popped up here locally just recently, seller is asking a bit much for it, $2500. I doubt its will sell for that although 500's rarely come up for sale here. But of course Im partial to the k5  :-D, and this thing being a rare beast.......I cant bring myself to pay more the $1500 whatsoever :| But, I will offer to trade my fresh rebuilt 2000 250, pending the K5 checks out. Sellers ad:

"1984 KX 500. One owner, used 2 years as a play bike. Never raced, very well maintained. Still has original front tire, chain, and sprockets. Comes with extra primary sprocket, new rear sprocket, factory manual. It is jetted for around 1000 to 3000 ft, I still have original jets. This bike has been in dry, heated shop all it's life. The plastic is all original, and not beat up. The fuel tank has discolored from the fuel I used (leaded premium) but is otherwise in great shape. Always used synthetic oil. The seat has 1 small tear in it. It has original clutch and brake levers, custom bark-busters. Brakes are excellent- 2 finger "stoppies" no problem. Suspension works great- no leaks. Small ding in the pipe, but not affecting the power. Just looking for a good home for this good old bike- last year of the air cooled, simple, yet powerful KX's! This bike has lots of life left in it, and is a joy to ride- very dependable and lots of fun! Price may seem high, but it's not a beater, and I have owned it since new. I can email larger, better pictures to serious buyer if requested."

It sure doesnt look well maintained imo.
What do you think? Most 80's bikes that come up here are roached, this one looks not too far off from a good runner.

I wouldn't mind having it fully restored but 2500 for that condition?
I think that's a bit much, but then again, what do I know?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Unless it is vintage legal I am not sure it has much use. Just my opinion.
