Y section of frame questions
« on: November 10, 2011, 05:01:58 PM »
I have seen a few different ways of the Y section being modified for the 2t pipe. One using the original cast part reused and the Jfab way of just welding the frame rails to the down tube and adding gusseting. My question is, what advantages/disadvantages do each have?

Also, on the Jfab way, anyone have pics of the gusseting that was done?

I Took the Original Y section and milled it down and used JFab Frame Rails and Rewelded back just like factory

Thanks for posting that up. That's the KX450 chassis, right? Unfortunately, I will be using an '06 KX250F chassis and it has that bulky cast piece at the Y. I would like to be able to ditch the cast piece but I'm not sure if I will lose too much strength there. My bike will be almost exclusively off road with a rare trip to the MX track. What do you think?

I am using the same frame you are just with a 250 motor. I reused the Y as it made it very easy and it will probably hold much better. One thing i can tell you id=s if you get the rails through jfab tell him to keep the ends for the Y area straight as he bends them in for the 450 frame
