500 Factory compression release ?
« on: December 16, 2010, 04:40:54 PM »
Does anyone outthere know anything about KIPS-D starting in about 1998 or 1999 I think Kawasaki changed the power valve in the 500's from the standard KIPS to the newer KIPS-D (D for decompression) to make starting easier can anyone tell me what they did if it works good in comparison to other compression release's out there and if I can convert my 94 KX500 power valve to do this

As far as I know it has almost always been so.
Maybe this could helphttp://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,7797.0.html?

Or try search on : Kips, Kips mod or Kips bold.
By that way you get to learn more about it.

That mod has been around along time, if you go through the threads you will find one on the LIPS bolt mod, what that does it take the compression bleeder out of the equation. to accomplish the so called decompression the KIPS valves over rotated and bled off pressure when trying to start. If you want a compression release send your head to Larry Weichman he does a very nice looking job and it works.

currently if your KIPS system works, you have the compression bleeder, do the Larry compression release and you can start it with your tennis shoes (not that I would reccommend it)

the kipps mod will make it Harder to kick,  but should improve the motor ar low revs, and less chance of kickbacks

you best bit to make it easier to kick is fit a thicker head gasket or http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,6445.0.html

I disagree with the thicker headgasket, why give up HP, most people are looking for more and installing the thicker gasket is giving away HP, get the compression release, do the KIPS bolt mod and be happy.
