Kawasaki Rod kit

Pokin around on service hondas site... I noticed somthing...

if you look up a 1991 kx500 you can get a "rod kit"  13044 SET-CONNECTING ROD
13044-5077   $121.15

But if you look up later ones (only looked at 2004 and 2003)... you have to buy all the pieces sepparate....

any idea if the "kit" partnumber comes with the same pieces (generation) as the later ones that are indevitual... it states that the part number given replaces an old one... so Id assume it comes with the later rod

If you buy the idevidual ones off the 2004, the price comes to $134.38

may be a cheaper option with the same parts?

i think the later con rods are different. i have several rods here. 1 i just bought from kawasaki a week ago and some older ones. the older ones are marked with s2 and the new one is marked s3. there looks 2 be a slight difference in the I section of the rod. i herd horror stories of rods breaking mainly from older guys. i am thinking maybe kawasaki uprated the rod at some point to combat this problem, just a though.the 2 packages are the crank pin and big end bearing. the small rod in the picture is one of our moped racer rods, just though it look cool next to the monster k5 rods :-D

The original part number for the kit was "13044-5076" and has been updated to "13044-5077", so I would think it was the latest and greatest parts. I see no reason for Kawi to keep making the old style rod if they updated it with a better version.
