Fowler,
Lay the bike on it's side & remove the outside clutch cover (don't need to drain oil or coolant) & check the pressure plate & inner hub, also check rivets on outer basket. Should be less than an hours job to inspect.
I am sure that thing feels Dog Slow compared to your Monster 5!

jonny500 . ..all the motor mounts are tight and chain is good. ..im guesing my k'5s run the same rod. .i send the cranks to falicon and they stroke it for me. . . .. . . .me and the wifey geting rite to go out to eat so i might take clutch apart tonight depends on how late we stay out. .

My 250 had that happen. It was a combination of a worn basket and the needle bearings in the clutch release arm. You can disconnect the clutch cable and pull the release arm out easily. I put heavy grease in there and it was a smooth stroke for a short time. The answer was new bearings in the hole. It required a "blind hole bearing puller." My clutch release arm had obvious scarring that developed at the bearings that wore through the dark coating of the arm's shaft. The slower I released the lever the more jumpy it acted.

just pulled the clutch cover and the clutch system out. . the outa clutch basket has some cuts and the cover has some wear. .im guesing the basket bearings are worn. .hard to tell. .they feel fine in my book. .i pulled the clutch release arm out also and it shows no wear. . when im in neutral and got the clutch pulled in its quiet just when i let it out it sounds rough. . and when im riding the clutch out it jumps and sounds even rougher. .
