88/89 KX250 gas tank swap - same width as 500?
« on: November 25, 2010, 03:29:24 PM »
Is the 250 tank narrower than the 500? If it is, does the pipe limit the width on the right side? Is it worth swapping for moto application?

Joko,
Here in the states just the 89 KX250 tank is smaller (it's what I use) so long as you don't need the extra fuel I highly recommend using it.

Dold guy, Is it narrower or just not as tall at the top, near the gas cap? Why do you recommend it? Thanks ...

I dont have one, but I believe they are shorter in height.  Maybe we can convince Doug to post a pic showing the overall difference.

I just bought an '88 KX250 tank, got it back home and compared it to the 500, it's same exact tank!

From other threads I've seen, 88 is the same as the k5.  89 is smaller.  both will fit
Do a search and you may see some additional info.

Joko,
As stated earlier the 1989 kx250 is the only one that is smaller (at least here in the USA). I posted pictures here:
