can you describe the noise? Some oils can cause a shutter from the clutch plates when you release but you feel that more then you here it.

Well the clutch basket is turning the whole time the engine is running / pull in the clutch and the inner hub and pressure plate stop rotating with the clutch basket / I bet once you release the clutch the inner hub and pressure plate are placing more load on the clutch basket and drive gear / could just be normal wear on the drive gears and the load causes the noise. Maybe the clutch basket cushion dampers are worn allowing the clutch basket to ratchet back and forth.

all bikes do this. it just depends on how bad. when you pull the clutch in you disengage the gear box and inner clutch hub. so, no noise with clutch in and then noise when clutch out. this says to me that the there is a problem on the gear box input shaft and or associated clutch parts (the middle). i would say in my experience it will be the gearbox bearings. if you take the inspection cover off the clutch. remove the the presure/drive plate. take hold of the main clutch center nut and see if ther is any up and down movment. if there is alot then you need to replace the bearing behind the clutch this can be done without spliting the case. if you need help to do this just post again on this thread
hope this helps

Sure would like to hear the noise or at least a better discription. This is like trying to figure out what color something is in a room with no light.
