crank seal symptoms
« on: July 24, 2010, 05:14:38 AM »
can anyone tell me if these are symptoms of bad crank seals. 1. miss fire when hot 2. taking a while to settle back to tick over after being reved in neutral. of all the bikes i have owned i have never had a crank seal go on me. i think it is because i have always replace them as part of routine mantainance. any help would be greatly recieved
thanks in advance
john

I'm by no means an expert John, but yes that sound like an air leak / lean.
Remove the ignition cover and look for signs of a leak, Maybe some oil dribble or small pool at the bottom of the cover.   Get a can of carb cleaner (with the little straw), start the bike.
Shoot a bit of the cleaner towards the seal and see if the bike idle changes.  Then move on to the airboot and intake.   That should give you an Idea where it's leaning out your mixture.
