kx500 in Canada
« on: July 13, 2010, 01:23:34 AM »
Hey guys, awsome site. Just bought a 97 kx 500 this spring and have found tons of good info on this site. You guys really seem to know your stuff. My last two bikes were a yz490, and an xr400, really fun bikes but nothing compared to this beast. I do lots of tight single track and everyone told me I was crazy to buy this thing but I just love it. Did the reed spacer and can't believe how well it works. It's pretty cool when everyone is spun out on a hill and you just tractor by them. Keep up the good work.

Where do you ride? I'm from Saskatchewan. Lots of nice trails up in the forest.

 Welcome Ed,
I have alot of singletrack out my way, had a 13t counter that was digging in to my case..
Cam22 modded his sprocket and worked out great.  when I had the 13/50 you could set the idle up and actually idle along at about 8mph in 1st.   running along skidder trails was much more fun without having to constantly shift and or clutch.  Cut way down on shifting and clutch work. and actually got in 5th gear.
I don't have much open space to get out of fourth let alone open her up in 5th.
Dropping the gearing that low kept the bike from loading up and just crack the throttle and you could almost leap over and up almost anything.

I live in B.C. Tons of old logging and mining trails. You can ride all day and never touch the same place twice.
