Lighter fly wheel weight
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:18:19 AM »
Would a lighter fly wheel weight make my 06 kx450f rev faster? Do they make such a thing?

Provide just a little more information about what you?re looking for in power delivery. What mods have your already made to your bike? I have not rode the KX450F but from what I read it's a monster through out the power range.

I was thinking if I lighten the fly wheel it would rev faster. Like when they balance and polish the crank rods. Falicon. Or like the klx 110 and they drill holes in the flywheels.

+3 stroker, port and polished, valve job, inserts, copper valve seats and guides by L.A. Sleeve. Maybe 98mm bore.

It would make it rev a little bit faster but it would also make your power delivery less controllable and you would feel a difference in you grunt down low. but from the looks for mods that you have done already looks like your making a drag bike not an everyday track or trail rider.

I'm just doing a rebuild on the bottom and got the stroker crank for a good price. The head mods were done 60 hrs. ago. I was told with the stroker I would gain torque. This is gonna be my trail bike. Try to compete with the ktm 530.

first the 06 and 07 had lighter cranks than the 08 and up, the intent was to make the power more linear. so you probably can't go much lighter.
going big bore will make it rev slower and the stroker will make it rev even slower, it should make huge torque. I have a 100mm Athena big bore making it a 490 and a stock 450, in my opinion the 450 will kick the 490's a$$, the 450 does have some mods.

Hot cams should help ya get some more power out of it. It already would run with a ktm530 in most trail conditions. In my opinion you wont get a kx450 to run with the 530 in the open unless you gear it up. also the 530 is a torque monster so in that case the slower revving big bore kit may make it more ktm like.
