waterpump seal
« on: June 13, 2010, 11:36:00 AM »
I have a new seal, but looks a bit different to the one that was in my engine . The old one looks to be the same on both sides where the new one is different.

so : which side goes to the outside/impeller ? left or right ?

Left side picture faces out towards the impeller. I'm getting ready to replace mine for 2nd time. But before i do im ordering the shaft that runs thru the seal. I noticed a small wear groove from the seal that i missed last time. I'm figuring not a big issue since it's a 2001 with lots of hours. Give a close check to impeller shaft before replacing just a seal.

Are you sure the left pic faces towards the impeller?
I remember my case had a hollow that the little cone you see in the left picture fits into.

Got my cases apart right now (fixin the tranny)
lookin at the seal, just like in the left picture. That was the first thing i checked for when i replaced the original seal. I bought the bike new in 01
Is it possible the factory installed backwards. My replacement has had no issues for 4 seasons
