whos running a headlight on a 250?
« on: February 02, 2010, 01:40:36 PM »
i got a ufo ghibli, the kdx replica for my 03 250 and it wont mount up. the bulb socket cover hits the cdi box not even letting me strap it to the forks. i don't really want to relocate my cdi box. does anyone know what will fit with no interference? i have seen the ufo twins headlight on a 250 so i assume that one works?
i did like the idea of the oem look with the kdx light....

Acerbis DHH, no clearance issues on my girls 07 250, has the same CDI location as the 03/04.

I also run a Ghibli on my 04 but had to remove the bulb assy. I ended up covering the hole and drilling another hole on top of the reflector and installing a small running light that is powered off of the powerjet coil. Cant ride at night but gets me through tech inspection at the enduros.

cool, thanks for the reply. :-D
i picked up a ufo twins and it fits great, and as soon as my kdx headlight switch comes in i'm gonna try running it off the p/j untill i get a lighting coil. i guess i need a 20w bulb also since the p/j only puts out about 25w.

check out these cool led mr16 bulbs i found to use in my twins headlight.
i have 2 ordered and i can't wait to try them out. i'm already running 2 regular 20w halogen bulbs with my 50w stator and have pretty good light output.
i'd imagine the led's should be even brighter.

"This MR 16 base lamp consists of 21 high intensity LED lights. It uses only 2 watts and 12 volts of power. It is equal to a 15 watt halogen / incandescent / fluorescent bulb. LED lights are energy efficient and use extremely low watts. The lifespan of this bulb can reach up to 100,000 hours. This bulb emits no UV radiation and will remain cool to the touch."

Tried it out tonight and it worked as well as a 20w MR16. This is with the standard powerjet coil. I dont think the 05 up KX250s put out as much as the 04 and below because we couldnt get the 20w MR16 to work on the 07. On our 03 and 04s, they put out enough juice to power both the Acerbis LED taillight and the 20w MR16. Now I wonder if I could run 2 of the LED bulbs instead of one. It isnt enough for any serious night riding but enough to get you back to camp if you take it easy.

Does anyone know if the kx125's have enough power output to run headlights?  if so can anyone point me to a wiring schematics diagram for how to set up headlights, or at least the basics for what i would need?  I go riding in a state park with some trails and we camp right on the trail. Our bikes and four wheelers are our transportation on and off the camp site. It would be nice to have some lights for when it gets darker.

PS: those are some pretty looking bikes in those pics.
