Engine Finish

I am doing a vintage dirt bike project with my son.  I have no intention of making it into a museum piece, but I would like to keep things as original as possible.  Does anyone know what the black finish on 1970's era dirt bike engines is?  Epoxy, Enamel, Powdercote, Anodizing are all possibilities.  Not sure how each works with the heat on the air cooled cylendar head.  Anyone with knowledge of oem finish or who knows what is the accepted modern solution is please offer advice.

Hello.
You might want to tell us what year, make, and model as they used many different black paints throughout the years.
If you are unsure about it, try posting the VIN or Engine ID.

It is a 1978 Suzuki DS100.  I know this is a Kawasaki site, but there is a lot of experience here and thought I would ask.
 
I am really happy with the black powdercote on my K5 frame and plan to do the DS the same.  The frame of the DS was originally a semigloss very similar to the powder.  The engine is more of a satin. The wheel hubs and lower fork legs are a similar satin.  The pipe is somewhere between satin and flat.

Here is a picture of what the finished product should look like.
