new guy from pa.
« on: January 25, 2010, 01:43:38 PM »
hello everyone my names andrew, i'm from south central pa riding an 03 kx250. i've been lurking here for some time now and i'm starting my 1st rebuild on the kx so i figured it was time to register. i've learned alot about my bike thru all the information i've found here and modded it accordingly with great results. i ride mostly woods/single track and do alot of hillclimbing so at 180lbs the power and agility of the kx suits me. i found the suspension a little harsh at 1st, but now that i've softned it a little and gotten used to it i'm happy with it. mods so far are fmf gnarly with the power valve spacer installed, shorty silencer, v-force 3 reeds, 11oz fww, 13/50 gearing, uni filter, protaper evo cr high bend bars with turner mounts, asv f3 levers, acerbis rally 2 handgaurds, works frame gaurds, ims pro series pegs, utah offroad skid plate, f&R disc gaurds. i'm using motul 800 premix motul gear oil and engine ice.
i'm also planning on adding the works rad braces, some kind of rad gaurds, 3.1 gal clark or ims tank, a ufo ghibli headlight, 18" rear wheel, and a scotts dampner... as $ allows.

i'll try to get some pics of the bike posted soon.

i look forward to contributing.

andrew

Welcome!  Can't wait to see some pics.
If some is good, and more is better, then too much is JUST RIGHT!  B.O.

Andrew Welcome aboard!
Thanks for signing in and being counted!  I'm sure it helps the boss (Danger) know its woth keeping the place open.
Your Bike sounds like a great woods weapon for the PA. countryside.  I'm from Ohio and remember some of the  pennsylvania hill country was like Straight up and straight down, with lots of water and shale with a good dose of that grey clay that has the viscosity of a booger...  well, sort of.   Some of the creeks you step in you may find you have left your boot in the muck, and are lucky to bring out your foot!
ahh, yes.. and then there are the winters, nothing like the lake effect off Lake Erie...
Looking forward to some good stories from the North Coast of the U.S.A.  !

thanks guys!  it sounds like you know pa well tuck! i ride in tower city, pa. a place called rausch creek trail riders(www.tctri.org), formerly called tower city trail riders and started in the late 70's. its a members only club with campgrounds, 8500 acres of ridable land that has been completely devastated by coal/strip and deep mining for nearly 100 years. although the land is destroyed and pretty much useless it makes for amazing riding with an unbelievable variety of terrain as well as spectacular scenery.

i'm 36 and grew up riding 2stroke dirt bikes, i had quit riding when i was 24. then 2 years ago a few of my friends were getting/riding quads so i bought a nice used 04 kfx400. needless to say within a year of riding/modding and maintaning it i was tired of it and wanted another dirtbike. i had nearly 4k into the quad so i knew i could trade it or sell it and get something nice.....

the traded kfx.

i posted an add online and the owner of this beauty called me and he really wanted a quad. we made the trade and i never looked back. here are a few pics of the kx when i got it in june 09. from what i gathered the guy bought it and didn't realize how powerful a 250 2t was and must have been scared by it/of it and never rode it. he took it down the drive way to get the mail here and there so it was run in regular intervals over the past 6 years. it was garage kept, it had never been ridden in the dirt or gotten wet, it was showroom and nearly untouched...

i actually don't have any recent pics of it together, it looks like this right now.

it has about 40-50 hrs on it and hasn't ever had any issues but i'm putting in new piston and rings in it, preventitive maintenance i guess.
 :-D

That bike looks brand spankin' new...
It must be nice for the prev owner to get a 250 to run down the drive and get the mail.
 Good for you I guess!
The mining in Ohio was more to the south, I grew up in a small town between Cleveland and Akron, (N.E.)
Thanks for checking in, there might not be a whole lot in the 250 forums ..yet.. however lots of guys here have had plenty of expierience.  (I guess that's a nice way to say there are lot's of old guys willing to help!)  :-D
   Take Care,
