ThrottleJunky (Newbie) in New Orleans area with an '01 K5
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:11:14 PM »
Hello Guys,
I stumbled on this website a few days ago.  Couldn't believe it's been around all of these years and didn't know about it. Way Cool.
I'm 49 years old, married with 3 lovely children.  Work at Shell Motiva Norco as a Mechanical Team Leader.
I grew up on bikes just like ya'll.  Mom and Dad rode with us too.  At 13 years old, MX caught my attention and I  was HOOKED.  Advanced through the ranks, rode AMA Pro for a few years until in '81, one of my close  friends got killed during our race.
Took a break and rode enduros with my Dad for a while.   Started street bike riding and when the GSXR's came out in '86, it was love all over again.   Got my WERA license and bought 2 GSXR 750's.  One for the track and one for the street.   Two months later, not enough parts to put one together.  I went through two sets of leathers in one year of RoadRacing.   Got out of RR in '90, too expensive, the nut behind the steering stem kept me crashing.
Still dirtbiking and street riding in the '90s, I got into JetSkiing.  Started racing them in the Enduance/Open Water Events.  Checked out of racing them in '01.   When you crash and get knocked out cycling you can at least still breathe, a JetSki crash and you may drown .
Hurricane Katrina took everything in '05.
The last number of years the only racing I do is "to and from work".
Attend Daytona Bike Week, Houston supercross, Dallas SX, Atlanta SX,Freestone MX National, and any other pro race within 500/600 miles - Religiously
Been on KX500's, I mean K5's (picked that up on this forum) since '86.
Streetbike is a '06 ZX14,Muzzy pipe, Power Commander, PC Quick Shifter, Flies Out, APE Knifed, (2-1/2 lbs.)Lightened/Balanced Crankshaft, APE Undercut Transmission -Up & Down, APE Head Job w/Muzzy Valve Springs. Custom Mapped. Radar:ValentineOne with Heads Up Display, GPS = 192MPH (need a gearing change for 200-don't want to lose the wheelie power)
Jet Ski is an Ultra 150 treated with an assortment of Group K components.
Sorry for rambling.
After proreading this, it's a wonder I've broke my neck twice, had 6 knee surgeries, and numberous other events. Not even 50 and broke up! (Dumb_ss)

Wow, just getting over Mardi Gras and the Saints winning the Superbowl.  That game was the most exciting Superbowl I've ever watched.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Sounds like this might be the first annual KX RIDERS DAYTONA BIKE WEEK FEST!
