Lean Plug?
« on: January 07, 2010, 03:36:51 PM »
Can you take a look at this plug?  pilot  62
                                              main  170
                                              clip  3rd
                                              air screw 2 1/4
This is after WOT, chopping the throttle, and shutting her immediately down.   At 500 ft   45 degrees.

Looks lean.  Seeemed like it ran rich and not too crisp at low rpm.  Maybe up a little on the main?

thx  B.O.

  Blue-O.,
If I'm Looking at the chart correctly 45 deg.F and 500' (close enough to sea level)
I get a correction factor of about 1.03.     168 x 1.03 = 173.04   for the main,  and  58 x 1.03 = 59.74     1 turn on the air screw.
   I believe your running 32:1
That info is  from the owners manual (stock), the aftermarket  pipe would need to be a tad richer still.
It's probably a good thing you didn't spend too much longer WOT.

You might consider raising the clip on the needle to clean up the bottom end,
and  for sure up on the main.

Something else I'm not sure anyone else has had a problem with is using only real
Keihin Jets, I have had varying results with non marked jets while helping out some younger guys around  here.

Yes, Roostmad1, I was nervous.  I have since corrected the issue.  It took a bit, but I have the jetting pretty dialed in now to where all I really do is make a small change to the air screw, occasionally.  My plug is now tan/brown and the bike runs just fantastic!  And that is due to the help from all those on this site.
