Shift mechanism spring failure.
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:20:37 PM »
Just a warning if anyone has this problem. I was riding my kx and all the sudden a missed a gear or so i though. Then after than i thought I blew my tranny (shift drum or bent a shift fork) because the gears wouldn't engage all the way but sometimes they would and at this point i was pissed cause i had a pismo trip ahead. I looked at my old 500 case and saw how the shift mechanism worked then looked in the manual. Theres a spring that connects to a little roller inside the clutch cover that like pulls the gear in all the way from what i could tell. So i pulled the clutch cover off and sure enough the spring snapped. easy fix. Just thought id thorw that out there if anyone ever has it happen to them because ive read about people trying to figure out what it is saving the panic of thinking u have to spend 1k to fix your bike.
