The Desert is more of a top-end pipe.  The Gnarley is like a basic Fatty version, more low-mid.

Best woods pipe, is one with a pipe guard mounted to it.

Derest gnarly pipe is for top end pull/more over rev and built with 18gauge steel. The gnarly is built for low/mid range pull with 18gauge steel.

Man these are good pipes. I had the gnarly and man what a big diff it made in the low/mid power. Great for woods.

part numba's
gnarly torque pipe 020055               gnarly desert (mid top) 020038
And lo, I did loft the front wheel and carried it forth to the unbelievers, and cast it down before them and said unto them ''look now upon the might of my throttle control ye pitiful cretinous ones''
And the unbelievers did quake in their boots....

i have a fatty gold series on my bike and it seems ok but have not had any other pipes on this bike to compare to. i questioned stewart about pipes a year or so ago and his opinion was the pc 2 platinum was the choice pipe for all around performance. i'm guessing he dino'ed all the pipes he had to make that statement. stewart, if i'm wrong please correct me.

   First off.
 A)  I'm not completely sure "The Fatty"  JFab is referring to have tried has  anything to do with an exhaust on a motorcycle.
He has exhibited  Wise-N- Heimer tendencies in the past...  Shame on you...

 B) I know... "I didn't inhale"...  I'm sorry, I'm only Human, I did...That was along time ago...
O.K.  .. Shame on Me...  This was a test, back to business.

 C) Pro Circuit- Works & Platinum have the same cone design, different finish
"Increased horsepower and torque gains will quickly be noticed across the entire rpm range."

 D) FMF - http://www.fmfracing.com/Mode/Category/51
This link should go to their site and explain their design intentions.

Gnarly is what FMF calls all of its 18gauge pipes. they are to take more abuse than the thinner 15gauge pipes .CBX
Yep, you can ride it - if YOU can start it !!

Thanks guys.  I had a FMF gnarly on the 1992 I just sold.  The bike had no power at all so never got to try it.
The new 2001 has the factory pipe on it.  I'll let you know as I just ordered one. g Narley!
