44 Lectron
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:36:11 AM »
I have searched for awhile in here on this carb. Ireally didn't see specifics other than it will improve mid-top. By how much? Will bottom end suffer at all? I see the 4-2 needle seems the best at 2.05 length. Is that in inches from tip to bottom of the slide? I found lectron.com and they will customize one for my bike at my elevation, etc.

Anything else I need to know about setup, or fitment? Thanks

Neither are stock, and both are great desert bikes.

Yes, it's a mid to top end carb. If you don't what to lose buttom end then look at the sudco 42mm keihin.

OK, so is the mid to top gain really noticeable? How much will be lost down low? Is a smaller Lectron a viable solution, or compromise? Like a 42 or smaller? I like single track riding, but I also want to smoke my other riding partners KX5's on long straights.

I think a Keihin 42mm carb is your best choice.

This guy should be able to bore your stock carb to 41mm.
www.rb-designs.com

The Sudco is just an overbored 39 PWK, the 39 PWK being the stock carb on later KX500's.

I like the Mikuni vm44 with a ufo slide mod more than the lectron.  It carburates cleaner in the low and mid settings compared to a Lectron which is more a topend oriented carb.  They are also cheap too like $125 new from dennis kirk.

They also said most people see 30%-40% more HP. Some up to 50% depending on mods.
