Good luck. There's aftermarket lighting coils out there but pretty weak output. 35w. The headlites and tailites are everywhere.

You need to find an E-Line lighting kit. 200w. No...they're no longer made and haven't been for a while.

You have to get a universal kit and make it work. Like speedway said, you can get a moose or electrosport light coil but they are pretty weak at low rpms. They will get you street legal but would be dicey for riding at night off road. Maybe the battery idea for that?

Something like this: http://www.procycle.us/dskits/dskit.htm

Good luck!

Not sure, my K5 is a 95 and the moose catalog doesn't list one for the 87. Maybe someone with an 87 will chime in.

I had to grind the coil mount bosses on the stator plate down a little to get the lighting coil to fit under the flywheel without rubbing. Then, using a small nail, I poked a hole through the rubber grommet already there for the ignition wires and ran the stator wire through. It was easy. You will need the correct flywheel puller to get that sucker off though. Don't try prying or using a claw type puller.

Hope you find a solution...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't he be able to use an newer ignition (stator, flywheel, cdi, coil) and use a lighting coil for a newer bike. I've got an 87 as well, thinking about getting it setup for the street. Lights are one of the obsticles I'll need to overcome. What about using one from a Kx250 along with that ignition? I love the explosive power of the lighter flywheel (have a fww, took it off after 3 rides) and would hate to loose that by going to the newer K5 ignition.
