I have been contimplating braking options. Figured we should make a one stop thread for brake options...

Ill start it out....

I have been thinking of running stock rear.  and possibly stock front brakes...

have also considered Large front rotor with relocator kit for the caliper.

What are your setups and the pro's/Cons you feel your setup has...

I have a KTM 525 EXC Supermoto, I have a Brembo radial caliper and a master cylinder off a Honda TRX450, it has all the brake anyone would want!   Look at www.QTMI.com they have a lot of brake options.

I think I have settled on this brake setup...

http://www.motostrano.com/ebcsuovdico.html

Now here is the kicker... I plan on running it on both my street and dirt setup... I will just swap the front rotor back and forth between SM and Dirt wheels... Any problems with doing this??

I dont mind the extra braking in the dirt, as My 2002 KTM 640 adventure has a 320mm rotor and I have gotten used to BIG BRAKES in the dirt...

I was wondering would a stock 1/2 inch master cylider be enough for a 4 piston caliper? Any experiences? Will the brake be "numb"?   :|

the bigger the pump, the harder you must apply
most guys i know like the stock-setup except for a motomaster or brembo caliper
this is also my experience with stock pump ,it feels like it has more bite

yea ,i f you put like  19X20 MM pump on a 4piston-caliper ,
you can squeeze the lever as hard as you can but no real brake effects like u want it to.
stick with the 11mm and brake by a fingertouch

If you are going to swap from dirt to SM, I would suggest keeping the SM caliper (w relocater), brakeline and upgraded master cylinder togehter as a unit and swap the whole thing.  Then have the whole stock unit to swap on for dirt.  It is easier to swap that than swap disks.  That way you use the stock setup for dirt and the high braking power setup for SM.  Also the large rotors tend to get bent in the dirt.  Cam.

I think im going to get that 4 piston caliper and stick with a stock master cylinder. The bike is for smoto use only so i dont even have dirt wheels. Lets see how it works with a ASV F3 lever and a custom steel braided hose ;)

If you are running the Brembo 4pad/4piston cast caliper and the TRX master, I agree this is a good set-up. I have it on my XR650R Street tard. I have the same caliper with a 13mm standard Brembo on my KTM SMR and that is also a good set-up, but the TRX has a nicer MX sized lever. The Brembo caliper mentioned has a lot of initial bite.

Have also used Motomaster Caliper with the 12mm brembo master with good results.

The 12mm brembo with brembo radial is way to touchy (over the bars with one finger). TRX with Motomaster a bit hard (more effort needed).
