3 bikes in a Nissan Frontier ?
« on: May 13, 2009, 08:11:20 AM »
I'm thinking about buying a Nissan Frontier, anybody out there own one ?
Can you tell me if you can squeeze three full size bikes on ?
I realize I will need a bed extender, my concern is the width of the bed

Thanks, Bob

2005 Nissan, KLR650 and a KX500 make a tight fit.  3 dirt bikes would fit it you turn the center bike facing out.  Use shoe horn and KY.

A stock Nissan bed extender will not work.  You have to hold the extender vertical to get into the attachment slots.  Then fold it down onto the tail gate.  With the bikes loaded, they are in the way to do that.

I sold my Nissan and wish I had kept it over the Sport Trac.  Sport Trac is loaded, that's why I kept it.  The bed of the Nissan is better for my bike riding and it was 4x4.

Here's my story.

Danger4u2,

Thanks for the advice, you lucky, lucky man.
Is there a different type of bed extender that will work ? I've never used them before, so I have no idea

Have someone build you a peace that would go into the trailer hitch, extend upward, up past the tail gate about 12 inches with a bed width horizontal bar to set the wheel of the rearward facing bike against.
A "T" with a tail...if you will.

I have a new Tundra quadcab.  Similar issues with the small 5''6" box.  The box is actually quite wide and was only 10% less box area than my chev 8' (w/box liner) but the length is an impediment (try and toss a 6' stepladder in the back).  I built a 3 bike holder for the back, plenty of side to side room.  Then I got a canopy and had to build a bike trailer so I guess there is no moral to this story whatsoever. Four bikes on the trailer and a minibike in the back gets us riding.  Cam.

The only 3 bikes I can fit into the back of my Tacoma (Double-Cab) are my pit bikes.
And thats with the tail gate UP!
