New to the forum and new to KXs BRAP BRAP BRAP

HI guys, I will give fast back round about myself,
Im 34 now and I have only had Yamaha and Honda dirt bikes.
My 1st real dirt bike was a 1978 YZ400 that I got when I was 16 years old, This bike put me in the ER once.
Then I got a 1997 CR500 when i was 21 and that bike put me in the ER once.
Then I had a couple CR250s and YZ250s over that last 10 years.
Now to get to my point.
I just bought a 1998 KX250 with what I was told was a 1998 KX500 engine in it.
Im not too sure if the engine is a 1998 so I would like your help finding out what year it realy is.
The top end is at least a 1989 as it has the 3 EV Jug.
Heres my engine #  KX500BE018797
I bought the Bike to do some Hill Climbing up in Montana this next summer.
The bike is set up for hill climbing already and I have a couple tanks of fuel through it now and cant wait to point it at something big soon.
Thanks for you help guys!!!

Oh one more thing, I had a 05 YZ450 and sold it after one ride.
I love 2 stroke power  :-D

Your engine is somewhere between 91-04.
The good news is that from 92-04 there were no changes to the K5 engine.
The only changes from 89-91 was the flywheel, stator, shift shaft, and shift lever.
If you pull off your stator cover and tell me what the fly wheel code is we can see if it is older or newer.
Or, you can check all this info out here:

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Any number higher then 013001 will be 91 or newer.
Since your number is 018797 it's 91 or newer.
You have the correct fly wheel for a newer engine so all engine parts up to 92-04 will fit.

This is a pic of my 1998 500SF.
Heres more info on my 98.
1992 or newer motor with FMF CR500 pipe. (NOT service Honda pipe)
It has the 540 Kustom Kraft top end that should be freshed with the 560.
All the 500s I had in the past I wish I would have extened the swing arms. I can use a lot more of the power my bike has with the tire moved back.
I have an idea.
I bought a 2000 KX250 with a blown engine Last week.
I thinking I might put the 500 (AKA 540) in it. It should be EZ to do.
Iv been reading about the 250 ignition on the 500. I think I would like to try it.
Anyone have any onfo on this?
Thanks and thanks again to sandblast!!

Heres a pic of the 2000

Im sure I will be doing a swap form the 98 to the 2000 frame.
When I do it I will have the 98 frame set up for the k5 motor, and FMF CR500 pipe set up for the 98 frame for sale.
Make me an offer if you would like to get the ball rolling  :-D
