KX500 Frame
« on: November 20, 2003, 03:30:00 AM »
hey all!

I am kind of new here, but I have a question that I hope someone can answer.

I have a 93 KX500 that has some frame problems (dented, broken bottom motor mount, broken tab for the swingarm) and I have my eye on a frame from a 1989 500.  The parts catalog has slightly different part numbers for the frame (1993: 32160-1095, 1989: 32160-1026).  I am wondering if the 89 would fit the 93 without any alignment problems.

any help would be appricated.

Thanks!

NN

I bet they will if the 89 uses the same type of swingarm linkage.

Nasty,

You might consider having your original frame rewelded and gusseted, like Team Green does for their race bikes. I'll be putting my motor in this weekend and I keep telling myself that I need to take and post the frame pic's. If I do, I'll post here for your reference.

Thanks for the input guys.  I appricate it.  I think I will get the 89 frame (because it's cheap) and then get the original welded up when I get the chance.

next project:  raidators.  mine are kind of "dented" :)

Nick, if the end caps are good then take them to local radiator shop to replace the cores. MUCH cheaper than news ones

Thanks Paul.  I'll give that a try before I spend a huge wad on the new radiators.

I got the new frame and am wondering about one little thing.  My old frame has a pipe mount low on the front of the frame as well as the two on the right side of frame.  My new (the '89 frame) has only the two side mounts.  According to the pictures on the kawasaki site (parts diagram), it's only has the two side mounts on the frame.  Of course, both of my aftermarket pipes (Fatty and PC) have the flange in the correct location  Mine looks like it was welded on by somebody other than the factory.  So my question is:  How many does yours have?  If they have three, can I get by with only the two side mounts?

My 94 has the 3 mounts but I don't use that one. ..Let me rephrase this.  The mount fell off and I haven't replaced it.
