Any way to adjust Magura?
« on: February 15, 2009, 01:18:06 PM »
I have a hydraulic clutch on the 500, and it works great. Smooth, easy, definately worth it. I did have to make a small bushing to give the correct alignment and spacing to make it work, but does work well. So I bought one for the 250, and this one releases real slow.I replaced the clutch springs. I re-bled the line, still releases slow. I went and rode all day, still slow, maybe slower. I removed the hydraulic mechanism, and the clutch arm is under plenty of spring tension. What else can I do before tossing this in the trash? Is there any other adjustment that would speed up the stroke of the action on this Magura? Anyone get a bad hydraulic deal from them?

I have no Magura skills, but if the master cylinder piston was not allowed to fully release to its stop or snap ring , the "fill" port would not be uncovered and the fluid would not be fully released. That would cause slight pressure build up and maybe slow release.
This is similar to a car, when the master cylinder push rod is adjusted too long, with no free play, the brakes will drag.
My two cents may not apply, but may provoke some theory thought.

Well, thanks Johnniespeed. Your sugestion actually did help me to find the culprit, I think. The max distance between slave cylinder and clutch arm, on the 500 is 2 1/2 inches and that distance on the 250 is almost 3 inches. The slave cylinder is stretched and under a load, so I replaced with a cable, and will investigate a longer slave cylinder rod. Thanks, I hadn't checked the differences in lengths in that spot.
The instructions supplied with the unit, mentioned there should be something like 3-5 16ths of free play at the slave cylinder, and I'm way tight.

Update: For you guys that are interested, I chased down part numbers, and appears that the 500 and the 250 have the same Magura part numbers.  :? I sent an email to Magura and hopefully will get it narrowed down further.
