Green plastic
« on: January 27, 2009, 03:08:10 AM »
I'm shopping for some replacement green plastic for my 250/500.  I want standard Kawi green.  I don't want it to fade to a different color like I've seen on some bikes.

Other than original Kaw, what brand is going to hold up?

I've used Acerbis without any problems, this was when I was riding blue though. Cycra is supposed to be good, typically more expensive than Acerbis. UFO is an option, but from what I've heard they're cheap. Maier I've heard is good. And there's Polisport, which I don't know much about. Don't store your bike outside and it shouldn't fade.  :-D

All the plastic I have replaced on my bike was Acerbis and I replaced it with UFO. I know Acerbis is a quality product but I have to say I liked the UFO better (it was shiny and new and was updated style though :-D). It definitely isnt cheap looking or I would advise you to stay away from it. I have seen some Maier plastics that I did think looked pretty ghetto IMO and it seems that Maier puts their own little twist on the designs (at least the ones I have seen in person) instead of sticking with factory replica like Acerbis and UFO do. The Maier plastic may be good quality plastic, I cant really say, but the design sure looked cheap to me.

Right now the bike has UFO in green.  It's a far cry from Kawasaki green.  I want to avoid that.  It doesn't look good against a Kawi green frame.

Most all of the aftermarket plastic is good stuff (Acerbis, Polisport, UFO) and holds up as well as the OEM stuff. If your bike has been outside for a while, the sun will "Bleach" the color out and will look very dull. The only plastic I will not buy, is the Maier brand, it is vacuum formed opposed to the other companies injection molded (far superior process). If your plastic is an Off color it could be the Flo-Green color which is alot more of a Neon looking color.
