Identify this shock
« on: January 24, 2009, 05:19:36 AM »
This came on my 250/500.  It doesn't look like other KX shocks I've seen.  The reservoir is sort of flared at the bottom instead of flush.  The reservoir cap is flush and the schrader valve sticks out 5/8 inch.  It's genuine Kawasaki Kayaba, 18" eye to eye, and it did fit the 2002 chassis.  However, the schrader valve would hit a stock 250 pipe set up much like it's hitting mine.  There are flats on the reservoir cap that make me think that they are there for a wrench to grab.

The decal on it says Kawasaki.  I've even looked at KLX shocks and they don't have that funky schrader valve set up.

Quick scan of Ebay for a 91 kx shock and we may have a winner.

Now I have to buy one for a 2002.  Man.... this is why all projects cost more than expected.

So I sold this on Ebay as a '91 shock and the buyer said it didn't fit his bike.  He said it may be for a late '80s model.  Any other guesses?  I'd like to get rid of it.  Is there a part number on it somewhere?
