Same goes for bears and cougar. I have come upon each while tree riding, and they just stand there. The bears don't bother me much unless they have cubs, as they don't have any fear. Most just continue to lay in the sun. On the other hand, cougars show fear, and can attack as a result. I actually came upon a cougar during a race a couple of years ago, and stopped less than 5 feet from the front tire.

Yup, my heart was pounding, and I'll bet the cougars heart was as well. After starring at each other for what seemed like forever (probably only a few seconds), the cougar darted up the hill and I continued the event.
We also see a lot of Atelope and Elk, but these guys don't hang around. By the time we see them, they are always running. Same for coyotes.
Not sure why deer are so dump...
